of the inspections and includes examination of compliance with critical
elements of both the driver and vehicle regulations. It usually takes 45-60
minutes. A CVSA decal is issued for vehicles that “pass.”
Level II Walk-Around Driver/Vehicle
Inspection
Similar to Level I, except items that require the inspector to physically
get under the vehicle are not included. It typically takes30 minutes to
complete.
Level III Driver-Credential
Only documents pertaining
to the driver and hazardous materials are examined.
Level IV Special Inspection
A
one time inspection of a specific part, such as Operation Brake Check which
is held annually. These examinations are normally made to study, verify, or
refute a suspected trend.
Level V Vehicle-Only
Follows the vehicle portion of Level I. It can take place without the driver
present. It usually takes place at the motor carrier’s place of business
during a compliance review. A CVSA decal is issued for vehicles that “pass”.
